Guys you should have learned japanese already if you've been watching anime for more than 5 years like me.
Easier said than done.
I've taken 2 years of it in highschool, and there's a reason it's considered one of the most complex languages to learn.
writing and reading, yeah (except romaji ofc).. but he means listening and speaking i think.
sonna ni muzukashii janai yo. 🤣
I find this comment funny considering you've put "janai" after a plain i-adjective.
touché xD muzukashikunai* ahahaha
Is janai used if the previous word ends in consonant? And kunai after a vowel?
Baka...
exactly.
I can't write, nor speak Japanese properly, but can understand it.
Hai ore mo….
Or do i say ore me desu?
Wanted to say me too 💀
Lmao no it isn't. The only thing really difficult about japanese is reading/writing. I studied it half-assedly with Duolingo at first and then randomly on my free time got to N3 level in two years.
if you spend more than 10000 hours on something you can be called pro.i doubt you have spend 10000 hours on japanese in 2 years.
This 10000 hour thing is from an anime
Why are you making things up? Pls dont spread your ignorance to other people.
Probably because I was in highschool at that time.
Dude high school isnt really place to learn other languages i had english and german as classes in my high school but i learned english after i graduated from high school.
I lernt japanese in high school I can read hiragana & katakana and some kanji but I don't study much nowadays. I understand 4 languages.
U must be germand 😂🤔
i tried to memorize hiragana, i failed :(
maybe someday ill try again
you need to study hard and practice hard I studied everyday after months I mastered the writing. I memorized the alphabet then a to n あ ん. I writed so many times the alphabet with memorization. So after that hard work I am able to read some japanese novels and all of the manga.
you are inspiration to us all
Congratz to you then i spend most of my time playing pc games during my highschool years :D
I did not spend anime 10000 hour but I writed characters 10k times.
you can learn japanese writing it is not that hard you just can buy selfstudy book or photo photocopy from net.
What's that equate to for 20+ years of watching anime and only knowing maybe twenty words?
The same words a foreigner would likely know in my language (or at least some of them).
you need active feedback bro. if you listen to a song for decade, doesn't enable you to sing it, unless you practice it every now and than.
You haven't spent 10000 literal hours on japanese either, so I mean, what do you care how fast people learn or not?
i am pretty sure i have spent more than 10k hours on animes do not underestimate an otaku.
It's a rather effortless approach to getting acquainted with the language, but it's hardly efficient.
If you really want to learn a language, then you will want visible progress after a few months. Not 5 years. And as others have pointed out, that means you'd be spending your time watching anime non-stop for those 5 years. So, it'll easily take 15 years at least before getting to that 'pro-level' (and I doubt that will actually be the case).
There comes a certain point where just watching anime will not yield much anymore and you would just be piling up hours where you sometimes hear a new word you've not heard before.
You would need to watch anime in a proactive way. Repeat what they say, write it down as you hear it, make a list of vocabulary, etc.
Or just go on vacation to Japan for the next 5 years a few weeks at a time and you'd probably get more out of it than having watched anime for 5 years straight (just a guess though, since it all depends on your own aptitude and how actively you engage with the content you watch)
That is not something to brag about, and I'm pretty sure you haven't. 10k hours is literally 5 years, 24/7, you haven't, trust me. I've been watching anime for 14 years now and probably am sitting on the 8k hours now.
My MAL account which I haven't properly updated in years, says I've watched 217.4 days worth of anime... so that's 5,217.6 hours. Yeaahh... that's over 1,000 series, over 12,000 episodes. Getting to 10,000 seems like it would be tough. I've watched a few episodes every day for maybe 15 years?
lets see i have watched about 2h per day for like 20 years. 3*365*20...i would say i got 14600h in me xD
And how proficient do you feel now that you've reached the midway point of 5k hours, Serenity?
Yes, that sounds about right, nobody is watching anime literally 24/7 after all. I watch a few episodes a day also after work. I'm sitting at around the 8200 hours. In holidays I tend to watch more.
10,000 hours is 5 years 💀
lol it's just 1year
you're right, i'm drunk, it's a little over 1 year 🤣
You can try Hangul
i have watched anime for 5 years every day and still dont know japanese so obviously ur lying xD
I dont mean to offend you but maybe learning other languages is not your forte or you are just not interested in it.
i am definitely interested in it
Please look up the 'false dichotomy' fallacy .
With how much I watched (17+ years) I only know the gist of what people are saying and that's not enough.
after 700 series, i can understand Japanese without subtitles. It should be close to 1000 now
Get rekt, i haven't mastered japanese, but i've managed to learn german xD
Are you saying you have become fluent in japanese just by watching anime for 5 years?
German subs?
